The Art Of Threading

What Is The Art Of Threading...
And How Does It Compare To Waxing?

Threading relies on twisted thread to safely remove hair.

Threading is an ancient method of hair removal that originated thousands of years ago somewhere in the Middle East or South Asia. It's difficult to know exactly where it originated, but it's known to have been used in Ancient Egypt, Persia, and what is now India. At one time, only the rich and powerful had access to this beauty secret, but today it's more widely available. Here's what you need to know about threading...

  • In order to remove hairs, the threading artist winds the thread around them, and pulls. This pulls the entire hair follicle out. Because of this, the hair will grow back more slowly over time, and eventually, you'll never have to worry about hair in that spot again!

  • Today, after many thousands of years, threading continues to be a very safe, natural, and effective method of hair removal. There are no harmful chemicals to worry about.

  • It's much more precise than other methods—it leaves clean, well-defined lines. It's so precise, a skilled threading artist can remove a single hair with just a bit of thread! Even extremely short hairs can be removed. This makes it the ideal method for eyebrow work.

  • Unlike waxing, threading (if performed correctly) doesn't irritate the skin so much. This is particularly important if you are sensitive or allergic to wax.

  • Waxing can also remove a layer of skin, leaving you vulnerable to sunburn. It can even cause premature wrinkles! But threading leaves your skin intact and feeling smooth as a baby's bottom.

  • Most women report that threading is less painful than waxing. And I've developed a modification of the technique (see NEW Art of Threading) that makes it even less discomforting, and greatly reduces redness or skin irritation.

In short, threading is a far superior method of hair removal in most situations. Here are a couple where waxing may be better…

  • For removing hair over a larger area, waxing will certainly be quicker.

  • Waxing may be better for private areas because threading will pull out the entire hair follicle. This can be traumatizing to extremely sensitive areas and will cause mild bleeding at the pores. (Threading can also be a bit more "intimate," which could make it inappropriate for such areas.) I'd stick with waxing for private areas.
